New Mexico United hosted more than 200 dogs and 10,000 people for its second annual “Pups on the Pitch” event April 25.
Fans who wanted to bring their dogs to the game could sit with them in the outfield for an extra $5.05. Pet owners had to sign safety waivers and show proof their dogs were fully vaccinated.
New Mexico United teamed up with Animal Humane of New Mexico, Cross My Paws, the Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico and Watermelon Mountain Ranch to offer dogs for adoption at the event. The stadium’s big video board showcased the dogs.
Theme nights are popular with fans, said Jules Meyers, senior manager of match production and impact at New Mexico United. “Meow Wolf night is something that we’ve had every single year since our first,” said Meyers. “Pride on the Pitch is a really great celebration of the LGBTQ community, along with being one of our most colorful nights of the year. That’ll be on June 6 this year.”
