As part of our Creative New Mexico project, News Port interns Angela Shen and Ebony Romero wrapped up our show ‘Creative New Mexico Live’ this semester by interviewing Dorian Rader, executive director of New Mexico Start-Up Factory.

Rader, a native New Mexican, spoke on how the NMSUF works to bring laboratory technologies to the market by using an innovative model to assist scientists in commercializing their innovations. She also gave advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and those who are already in the startup business.

“Never give up,” Rader said to students with desires to be entrepreneurs.“Taking that entrepreneur leap is terrifying… New Mexico has a lot of support for entrepreneurs, but those taking risk of new business have to be prepared, so the risk is calculated.”

She also said the most rewarding piece of NMSUF is seeing ideas that were once on paper go into the market.

“New Mexico’s start up scene will continue to grow,” Rader said. “There are a lot more resources for businesses in Albuquerque than people realize.”
