Week long event focuses on film, arts and photography
The Albuquerque Film and Music Experience (AMFE) kicks off its 4th annual celebration April 18 with a variety of films and workshops at some of the city’s most popular venues.
The premier film and music festival will include domestic and international movies, along with workshops and engaging industry panels, live music, art exhibits, poetry, parties, and other special events. Events will take place through April 24 at venues such as the KiMo Theater, the Guild Cinema, South Broadway Cultural Center and Sol Acting Academy.
“We are very, very excited about bring the community together for the music, film and arts this year in New Mexico. Film and media is huge here,” said Ivan Wiener, executive director of the AFME. “I’m really looking forward to having the legendary musician Nathan East there and the tribute performance dedicated to him on April 23rd.”
Nathan East, who will be in attendance at the event this year is most notably recognized as the bassist for stars such as Michael Jackson and Eric Clapton. East is also the winning recipient for the 2016 AFME Music Award.
Wiener said the Tribute to East will include 80 songs he has recorded to be performed by all-star musicians, including 22 native New Mexicans. For East’s own live performance, he will also share the stage with other special guests such as legendary keyboardist Greg Phillinganes, Michael Jackson’s music directors for over 30 years.
With more than 6,000 in attendance last year, the annual AFME is a film and music festival intended to attracted notable attendees, musicians, filmmakers and creatives from around the world to honor the art of storytelling and participate in future collaborations.
“Our purpose is to provide opportunities for future generations while increasing exposure and economic impact for the City of Albuquerque, the State of New Mexico and our partners,” reads the AMFE Foundation website.
According to the AFME Foundation, the nonprofit organization “supports the nurturing, success and growth of a vibrant creative community, specifically through film, music and the arts and seeks to help future a world-class economic center of excellence for these industries in Albuquerque, New Mexico”
The AMFE foundation also implements its support for the Albuquerque, music and arts scene by creating, facilitating and supporting complimentary, mission-based projects and programs within New Mexico.
AMFE Foundation provides scholarships for high school upperclassmen who have the desire to pursue a college education focused on film, television, photography, art, theater, screenwriting, music, dance, or singing. Internships are also offered for high school and college students interested in a variety of positions.
